How to Use Focus Mixer & Create Your Ideal Workspace
Focus Mixer combines a Pomodoro timer with 12 ambient sounds to help you focus. This guide walks you through the basics and useful techniques.
Getting Started
Blend Ambient Sounds
Click any sound in the central sound panel to start playback. A highlighted button indicates an active sound. Play multiple sounds at once to create your own ambient mix.
Adjust the Volume
Adjust each sound independently with the slider below its sound button. When layering sounds, balance the levels for a natural, calming atmosphere.
Start the Timer
Press Start on the timer panel to begin a 25-minute countdown. Use the settings icon (⚙️) to adjust the focus duration. When the timer reaches zero, a notification sound plays and the timer switches to break mode.
Take a Break
After a focus session, the timer switches to break mode. Ambient sounds continue during your break, or you can choose a different sound set for a change of pace.
Save a Preset
Save your favorite sound combinations as presets. Press Save to store the current settings in your browser, then recall them with one click next time.

Deep Focus
Rain × White Noise — Masks outside noise and supports deep focus for demanding work such as coding and writing.
Cafe Atmosphere
Cafe × Birds — A gentle blend of background chatter and nature sounds that encourages creative work such as design and writing.
Engineer Mode
Server × Fan × Keyboard — Mechanical low tones that help maintain mental continuity during long coding sessions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Sound stops during playback
Browser power-saving settings may pause audio after a tab stays in the background for a while. Bring the tab back to the foreground and start playback again.
Can I use Focus Mixer on a smartphone?
Yes. On mobile devices, audio may stop when the screen turns off. Set the screen timeout to never, or tap the screen occasionally to keep it awake.
Can I use it offline?
Focus Mixer is a browser-based web app. Once the sound files have been cached after your first visit, the core features can work offline.
